  • Costa Rica

    Costa Rica is the most visited nation in the Central American region, and is renowned for its rain forest reserves. While the country has only about 0.1% of the world's landmass, it contains 5% of the world's biodiversity. The most notable parks are; Corcovado National Park, Tortuguero National Park, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The capitol of San Jose is well serviced with international flights. Most itineraries include time at one of the country's fine ocean beaches.

  • Arenal

    Arenal contains an active volcano, and also the only dwarf cloudforest in Costa Rica. The crater of the volcano is 1.5km (1mi.) wide and contains a hot-water lake that changes color from turquoise to green to gray. It is also a whitewater rafting center with routes on the Rio Toro and Rio Sarapiqui.

  • Manuel Antonio

    Well-kept and well-guarded,ManuelAntonioNational Parkfeatures 5 kinds of forest, some with characteristic rain forest vegetation.   • Monteverde

    Straddling the Continental Divide at 1440 meters (4662 ft), the Santa Elena and Monteverde Cloud Forest area offers one of the most interesting place to visit in Costa Rica. In the rain forest are more than 100 species of mammals including 5 species of cats, over 400 species of birds including 30 kinds of hummingbirds, tens of thousands of insect species (over 5000 species of moths) and 2,500 species of plants (420 kinds of orchids). The area is acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges in the New World Tropics.

  • San José

    San José was founded in 1737 and is a pleasant mixture of traditional and modern Spanish architecture. Places of interest include the Teatro Nacional, the Legislative Assembly building, and the Parque Central, east of which is the Cathedral. The National Museum and the Museum of Gold are also worth a visit.

  • Tortuguero

    Tortuguero National Park protects the Atlantic green turtle egg-laying grounds; it is in an area of great ecological diversity. Its network of canals and lagoons serves as waterways for transportation and exploration.

    Start your adventure with an early morning pick up in San Jose. Absorb the natural beauty of Costa Rica as you travel from the city into the Braulio Carrillo National Park and through the agricultural versatility of the Limon lowlands, including pineapples, rice, cattle and much more. Experience a typical Costa Rican breakfast along the way. Upon Arrival at the port, you will be transferred to the lodge by boat. Enjoy a scenic ride on the Tortuguero River and the Tortuguero National Park canals as you voyage to your lodge.

    The total transfer time including stops along the way is approximately 7.5 hours (267km/166mi). All transfers and activities in Tortuguero that are included are offered on a SHARED BASIS with other guests of the lodge.

    NOTE: There is a luggage restriction for excursions to Tortuguero. Passengers are limited to 25lbs per person only.

    Day 3: Sun, Apr 03 2011 - Tortuguero

    Rise and shine! Enjoy Costa Rican coffee, tea and cookies in the restaurant to start your morning. Join an early morning (5.30am) guided Canal Tour and experience the awakening of the jungle surrounding the canals as the animals start their day. This is one of the most exciting times of the day in the jungle. Replenish with a healthy, typical “Tico” breakfast in the Turtle Restaurant. After breakfast, suit yourself up with a pair of complimentary boots provided by the lodge and explore the mysterious Tortuguero Jungle with your Guide. Learn about the jungle flora and fauna as well as the animals that live in the tropical rain forest.

    Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the lodge.

    Replenish with a healthy, typical Tico breakfast in the Turtle Restaurant. Check-out; please turn in your keys and any borrowed items to the reception. The transfer will be by boat on the canals, and then by bus. Enjoy a typical lunch along the way.

    Pick up from your hotel in Arenal and transfer to Lake Arenal (25 mins). Board a motor boat and cross the lake while observing scenic views of the Arenal Volcano (45 mins). Private vehicle transfer to your hotel in Monteverde (approx 2.75 hours). Time/Distance Approximately 3.5 hours (112km/70mi).

    You will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the tour starting point. You will see beautiful views of the area all from a bird’s eye view flying through the treetops of the Monteverde Cloud Forest . You will get your adrenaline pumping when between each one of the points on the cables that stretch jungle.   • Costa Rica

    VISA/PASSPORT
    For entry into Costa Rica, U.S. and Canadian citizens must present valid passports that will not expire for at least thirty days after arrival, and a roundtrip/outbound ticket. Airlines should not permit passengers to board flights to Costa Rica without a roundtrip ticket unless they have Costa Rican residency or visa. Passports should be in good condition; Costa Rican immigration will deny entry if the passport is damaged in any way. Costa Rican authorities generally permit U.S. citizens to stay up to ninety days. Canadian citizens do not need to obtain visas for tourism stays of up to ninety days. Persons traveling to Costa Rica from some countries in South America and Sub-Saharan Africa must provide evidence of a valid yellow fever vaccination prior to entry. The South American countries include Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

      The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a private biological reserve dedicated to the conservation of the rare flora and fauna of this unique ecosystem. The reserve is 26.000 acres and is an important link in the growing network of protected areas in Costa Rica. It attracts birdwatchers from around the world. All entrance fees go to maintenance of this rare cloud forest reserve. Hotel Fonda Vela is one of the closest hotels to the Reserve Visit the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve.
